This campaign has been initiated by the New Zealand Open Source Society and other interested participants in the New Zealand IT and software development communities. The content was written by Dave Lane when he was president of the Society.
We think that the software playing field in New Zealand (as with many other parts of the world) has too long been tilted in favour of a small number of massive multinational software suppliers, and we think the time is right for the New Zealand government to again show global leadership, as it did with the bold and visionary decision to remove the ability to patent software in the NZ jurisdiction.
We would like to thank the many people who have supported this effort.
